Welcome Students and Parents,
I am Betsy Bruning and I will be your reading teacher for the rest of the year this year. This is my seventh year at Matsunaga. Over the past seven years I have had the privilege of working with the fourth and fifth grade students primarily in their math classes. While this is my third year as a full time fifth grade teacher at Matsunaga, this is actually my 17th year of teaching. I have a husband named David, and a son, Benjamin, who is in ninth grade and a daughter, Rachel who is in seventh grade. We also have a labradoodle named Bruno!!
This year you will be studying not only fifth grade reading indicators, but also the William and Mary Curriculum as well as some Jr. Great Books! We will work hard, maybe harder than you've ever worked before to become a critical thinker, reader and writer. We will have fun, I promise! Our first unit is centered around the theme of survival. Remember the quote we talked about today when we had our initial discussion about survival: It gets worse, before it gets better.....don't panic!!! You will be successful!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Bruning
